REAL Faithfulness Tip #27

Be clear to everyone that your spouse is your spouse.

Beware of joking around about your spouse being your girlfriend/boyfriend. Such jokes may not be clear to those who do not know you well. While you may be trying to be cute and let others know you still have that dating magic such jokes also imply having a girlfriend/boyfriend other than your spouse.

Stay on the faithfulness road so that your spouse and everyone else is clear about your intention to remain faithful.

REAL Faithfulness Tip #26

Focus on faithfulness, especially during the difficult times.

The current economy is tough on many people and during such times most of us try to escape the pressure in some way or another. Those who “escape” by enjoying family and friends, game nights at home, and books from the library are really just coping in healthy ways. Those who rely on alcohol, illegal drugs, or affairs are escaping in unhealty ways. Focus on faithfulness and look for ways to get through the difficult times as a team. When you remain faithful you come through as a winning team.

REAL Faithfulness Tip #24

Some people are motivated by goals, by having something to gain, or by the positive. Others are motivated by avoiding pain or loss which might be considered negative. Figure out which is your greater motivator and then construct a description which will help you stay faithful.

Positive example: By staying faithful I maintain a great relationship with my spouse, I enjoy the security of our relationship, and the specialness of our exclusivity.

Negative example: By staying faithful I avoid the stress of having to sneak around, the worry about getting caught, and the pain of either trying to repair my marriage or the pain and loss of a divorce.

It turns out that more people are more motivated by the avoidance of pain so which ever way motivates you come up with your reasons and repeat them to yourself daily. If avoiding divorce, alimony, and child support motivate you to stay faithful go with it.
